Life is all about moments (and good food).
Days spent well with people you love and appreciate having in your life. Life, according to my own personal beliefs, is all about enjoying and exploring. Never staying grounded, always looking for something more and new, always finding and learning about something you didn’t even know exist until recently. That’s what life is.
During Christmas time a lot of people often get very sad.
Christmas is a time to spend with people you love and it really questions who is worth having in your life and who is not. I like Christmas because of all the people, the decorations, the warm feeling it gives you. Christmas, for me, is a time to enjoy being happy without a reason. An excuse we all look for to escape the routine we often find ourselves trapped in.
This Christmas I had the opportunity to begin a tradition I intent on keeping. You see, previously Christmas-time-trips were a very difficult thing to do because of my job. This time, though, I can take a few days off and just visit another place.
If you haven’t visited Trikala in Greece and the Mill of Elves, then you really are missing out on a very good and magical place for young and old people.
All types and ages of people wait for it so impatiently each year, because it always is so fantastically well put together that it makes you feel like you are a character in one of those american Christmas movies.

Trikala as a destination is close to the mountains, quite chilly during wintertime with often a lot of snow and rain due to its location on the mountains, but it’s definetely a place worth visiting. At the center of this town a long river – Lithaios River – goes through, thus creating a fall atmosphere ideal for photographs and a very calm spot for those who wish to just stand still for a few moments and recollect themselves.
The best part of my trip, though, the reason I really visited Trikala is the Mill of Elves that happens every year in Trikala.

You enter a large welcoming gate decorated with garlands, christmas ornaments of all kinds and elves welcome you in every corner. There are games, fairies, treats – it’s like a Christmas playground for kids of all ages, including adults.
Santa’s House is there as well and you can go in and take pictures with him. It’s so magical that can make even the most strict and reserve adult crack a smile.

Sure, Trikala is a very nice place with its rivers and wild green beauty, but it’s the Mill that really steals your heart and makes you go back each year.
Even though it was my first time there I know I want to visit again. All the lights, the festive mood, the actors who were dressed like they just came out of a fairytale, it made me feel like a kid. A 23 year old kid.

However, a good trip is never complete without a dish of good or fast food. Although, I did not take a photo of the first dish I tried at a traditional tavern, because I was famished and could not wait for it, I did take a photo of this amazing and grand classic club sandwich along with a cup of cappucino because who says you can’t?

That 3-day-trip was enough to make me recharge my batteries, see something different and appreciate all the beautiful places that exist in this world and we really don’t take advantage of. All of us are so stuck in our work that we miss opportunities to travel and live our lives to the fullest, even though we know we only live once.
So, let’s make this year’s first revelation this one. To make each moment count, to take advantage of one-of-a-kind opportunities and live because we can never take those moments back.
What do you say?
