Like the proud Greek that I am, I can’t just not comment or feel proud of the fact that Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to play with the Greek Roman peplos clothing and make it Dior-appropriate.
With the New Year comes new inspiration, new clothing lines, a brand new era for fashion as we walk through 2020. Our fashion week begins with Paris Couture, one of the most important fashion weeks for every fashion enthusiast. We are all planning our year around it, just so we see what else those magnificent artists and slaves of fashion have come up with.
With the long history Dior has as a fashion house, I believe we were all looking forward to see what else does Maria Chiuri has in store for us. She took over Dior like a fresh air running through our lungs and we are all waiting rather impatiently to see if she’ll manage to preserve the unique essance Dior has in fashion history.
In collaboration with artist Judy Chicago, Ms Chiuri gave a new meaning to the word feminism and opted for a more appreciative couture pieces towards women.
Like Greek Godesses walking the runway, Dior’s models were the transmittors of what appeared to be an admiration towards female species – specifically to the way women used to dress back in the day and even more specifically in Ancient Greece.
We saw a lot of golden couture pieces, very aristocratic and eye-catching. Gold is the color of elegance and money and power, so I believe that it is fitting for it to be the color of Couture.
I loved the way every piece fitted the model, basically hugging the body that it was dressing. No more baggy clothes, no more hiding our curves and beauty. Dior is adding a new page in the book of female fashion history, by once more enchanting the importance of a woman’s natural bodytype.
Back in the day women were more juicy than they are now, so I truly enjoyed the way all the clothes hugged the women’s curves in a way that really showed them out and enhanced the way women move in dresses like that.
Gold, rose gold, soft pink, bronze and white. All colors of aristocrats, all colors of high fashion – the kind that apparently Ms Chiuri knows how to work very well. That type of elegance that you expect to see from a grand fashion house, such as Dior, was shown in this very artistic show.
It was also very good to see how well read she was when it came down to really catching the feeling of ancient greek-roman fashion. From the shoes to the hair, at some point I felt like I really was looking at Greek women parading.
A very successful show indeed.
As always, I have my own series of little gems – the best pieces in my opinion – that I believe stood out from the entire show.
