Create your own personal happy place during this quarantine warning times
Having your own happy place is a must-have these days.
Sure, staying at home is mandatory and some people are actually pleased with that, but not every corner in your house is equipped to help you make it through the quarantine. Or help you relax at all.
Personally, I love a good cosy space in my home. I have one and it’s, actually, a vintage leather armchair with a soft, warm blanket that I use frequently when I want to write or read. It’s comfortable, warm and fits me perfectly.
However, I feel like we are all staying indoors too much ( for our own sake, obviously) and we want to see or better yet remember, what outside looks like from our balconies. That gave me the idea and inspiration to look for what a cosy corner in a balcony looks like.
There are numerous ways to create your cosy corner in your balcony, no matter how large or small it is.
With simple materials you can create your very own cosy, happy place and go there each time you feel like taking in the fresh air.
It’s really easy to create that corner in your balcony and you only need some basic household materials we all have, or if you don’t IKEA has a lot of offers and ideas to help you with and they do deliveries in times of need like this one. Always remember, that most online shops do deliveries to everyone with a little delay, but the goods always reach the customer. So, if you don’t have any of the materials below don’t worry because you can get them with a click of a button.
Large retail companies, like Target or IKEA, have already launched large campaings about creating or re-arranging your house and every part of it the way you want to.
I have gathered some inspiring photos from Pinterest with some of my favourite cosy corner ideas. Pinterest, in my opinion, is a very inspiring place to go to when you feel like re-building your home or basically your life.
Basically, what you’ll need for your cosy corner is:
PILLOWS / MATTRESS
Pillows or a large mattress is where you start at putting together your cosy corner. You need a place to sit or lay down, so the options you have are rather simple. You can either buy multiple large outdoor pillows or a large mattress. If you have a mattress in your place that you don’t need because it’s old or you’ve replaced the one of your bed, or whatever the reason might be, take that mattress and lay it on the floor. Make sure, before you decide on the matress, to count the dimensions of the free space you have in your place. Remember, that your cosy corner can be both indoors (in the living room maybe) or outdoor (in your balcony or yard).

PALLETS (OPTIONARY)
Some people don’t like the idea of the pillows or mattresses to be touching the floor. A good way to solve than problem is by laying on the floor a couple pallets as your base. Now, in order to find pallets, (because not many of us have access to them) you need to look online or ask around. I am not sure how much they cost, which is the reason why I suggest you are either dread set on creating your cosy corner or you are willing to spend some money in order to do that. If you don’t, then I promise you that a mattress on the floor is really not a big deal. You can find plenty of small mattresses or large outdoor pillows to use as your base.

SOFA THROWS
Sofa throws can work as a decorative element in your cosy corner and in your home in general. Luckily, we have a large variety to choose from depending on the material and the look we want them to have. I recommend to go with something soft and dark colored. Dark colors don’t easily pick up dust and they always look rather chic on your sofa, although this time your sofa throw will be used for another sitting point.
CANDLES
A necessary element if you want to truly create a cosy corner. Imagine it’s getting dark, you are sitting comfortably in your cosy corner with a book in your hands. The weather is not yet chilly, the sky is filled with majestic colors and there are candles surrounding you. If that’s not a perfect moment worth capturing then I don’t know what is. Personally, I would go for scented ones, since humans in general connect moments with scents.
FLOWERS
In small vases, in large pots, a beautiful flower is a must in your decor. Choose pastel colors mixed with green in order to create a calming atmosphere.
A cosy corner can mean a lot of things and alternatives for each one of you. Some don’t feel like creating it on their balconies and may choose to put it together in a safe place inside their homes and that is perfectly fine. The important thing here is to create your own thinking place, your safe place, the corner you go to when you want to simply relax and escape the madness of the world.
I used materials from TARGET and IKEA since they seem to be the most common retail places in lots of countries, but if you have in mind some other affordable store you buy household items from then you get the idea of what to look for.
It’s okay for the world to get too much at times, although I am pretty sure most of us miss that madness nowadays. However, we don’t get sad or upset, but we rather find new things to put our effort in.
It’s understandable if you feel like alterating the idea and materials above. My goal is for each of you to make it your own and for my post to inspire you.
Once more, I want you to remind you to stay home and take advantage of the modern age we live in and order online whatever material you need. Thankfully, that is one service we still have.
I would love for you to send me photos of your own cosy corners!
Let’s do this!
