Golden Jewels: In or Out?

Fashion moves in never-ending circles and from time to time it recycles old trends that we thought might have died down.

One of the oldest trends that keeps coming and going back and forth depending on season, trends and current political status are the ever elegant golden jewels. When referring to “golden jewels” we mean statement shiny necklaces, bracelets and of course earrings. We all own at least one of the above, we either inherited them from our relatives or we are lovers of a timeless, classic piece.

However, there are two forces in fashion that are in constant battle.

Gold and Silver.

Silver made its appearance in fashion a while back and it was mostly matched with casual outfits, while gold was connected with more graceful and elegant outfits that women coming from the upper class would wear to show off their fortune. Since the beginning of time all jewelries were connected more to the fortune of every woman than what really suited them.

However, in the battle between silver and gold I have done my research well, because while opinions might differ I want to have a clear opinion of how and when each shade is appropriate. In my mind, silver represents the middle class, the millennials and every laid back girl who simply want to be in fashion, but does not want to be labeled as a come il faut but rather a rebelling creature.

We’ve seen multiple appearances in runways where designers invested in both gold and silver jewels on outfits to complete and create a more vibrant look on the catwalk.

How does a woman choose her jewelry though? What are the main factors a woman tests and takes in consideration of when choosing between silver and gold jewelries? Well, let’s find out together, shall we?

Skin Tone Factor
Skin tone is an important factor, which I must admit it did not cross my mind when I was making this list. To be honest, I never included skin tone as a factor to choosing your gold/silver piece, but I imagine that it matters. A light skinned woman might look better with gold jewelries than with silver. The contrast between the skin tone and the shade of the jewel can really be a point that a woman makes in her head.

The Vibe Factor
Let’s be honest, the vibe a woman wants to communicate by using her outfit is in fact a factor. Women have the habit of dressing according to what they want to say and how they are feeling. If they are gloomy they prefer darker shades of clothes whereas when they are cheerful they opt to brighter shades. Same goes for accessories, women prefer to wear more accessories when they are happy and vibrant, while when they are not going through their best of days or when they want to appear more confident and firm they opt for far less jewelries – most of the time a pair of geometrical earrings or a necklace made of pearls.

Color-matching Factor
Some colors work great with gold, some colors work great with silver and some just don’t work at all. Whatever the case, the right outfit needs the right colors and the right accessories. Therefore, when putting together an outfit and looking in the mirror, I do believe that a woman imagines what kind of jewelries could work. Are you wearing a total black outfit? What are your jewelry shade? Silver? Gold? Boho style?

The Trends Factor
Most fashion conscious people know that trends come and go every other season. A person who is really into fashion knows very well that you should be more inspired by trends than follow them blindly and that’s because trending is tricky. A true fashion freak doesn’t want to fit into the crowd, but rather stand out the best way possible. A woman may follow trends when it comes to accessories, mostly because fast fashion brands cater more what the industry dictates. If the mood is casual then silver is in line, if elegance is happening then expect something shiny like gold rising to the occasion.

The Personality Factor
No matter what we say about fashion, what we say about trends, what we say about any other factor that comes to mind, in the end it’s all about who you are as a person and what message you want to send to the world. Fashion may launch trends that challenge us and out style in general, but in the end of the day we choose what we like personally. Gold or silver, the right accessory can reflect a shade of who we truly are.

Gold never goes out of style. My question was unimportant and moot, because golden jewelries have always been in style no matter the trends.

In my opinion, when styling up an outfit you can never truly choose one type (or material if we want to be technical) of accessory to go with the outfit. Sure, there are many factors that play an important role in shaping a look, but all those factors eventually come to one major… the last one, who you are.

We all constantly make decisions depending on a variety of reasons, when it comes to fashion which is all about expression of oneself, then we should all go with our guts. Dare to try out new things, mix and match your wardrobe, change your style again and again until you find the one that works for you because owning who you are is one of the most important things you will ever do in your life.

So, golden jewelries. In? Out?
I say you do whatever you want!
