How To De-Stress After Work

Work is taking over most of our lives whether we like it or not. We work 8 long hours trying to be on our best behavior and solve problems that will make our lives and the people’s lives we work with easier.

Most of the time we also tend to bring the work’s stress into our homes and therefore our personal lives. Now, that’s definitely not good. It’s been said over and over again through articles, lectures, movies and such, that our personal life should be far away from our work life, and that’s because when those to mix up the results are usually not so good for our health mostly.

Stress caused by work, about an emerging project, a conflict with a colleague, a performance issue, a mistake or a mix up at work, it usually can bring us down emotionally. Mainly because most of us have this pressing idea that we need to be the best in everything we do and, naturally, our work has that priority for all of us.

Don’t get me wrong, I used to be that kind of person too. Whenever something would happen at work I’d be all moody and snap at everyone outside work when all they were trying to do was help me. That’s why I have been trying these new tricks I am about to show you that help me de-stress immensely after work.

Let’s talk about them.

#1 – Put on your speakers your favorite playlist #musichealsyoursoul

Music can effectively reduce stress. So, create your most upbeat and inspiring playlist with all the songs from artists that inspire you and put it on your earphones as you leave from work. The ride back to your place after a long day at work with your favourite music blasting will most definetely make you forget your work troubles.

#2 – Talk to an understanding person #sharingiscaring

I have found that sometimes all I need when I am stressed is to talk to someone about it or just start a conversation about a random subject just so my brain is pretty busy with that. The whole point is to simply put your brain to focus on something other than the stressful situation you are in. Try talking about a positive situation, an upcoming trip, a dream, a person you love – there are so many things to look forward in life and all of them are so much more worth your worry than a negative situation. Strive for a smile in your face.

#3 – Take a long walk #walktheworryoff

It’s the typical “walk it off” kind of thing. Get off work, change your clothes and walk around your neighborhood or go to a nearby park. Simply walk and enjoy your time living and being off work for a while. Ask a friend or a partner to come with you and talk about all random things as you walk. You will find that this simple remedy is the best pull against stress.

#4 – Read a book #readingfeedsyoursoul

If you are one of those people people who tend to create images with the words they read on the paper then you should use that ability to get lost into the majestic world of a book. Choose your favorite and be part of it, read with passion and dedication until you start seeing every chapter painted in front of you. Trust me, just a few pages can actually make a huge difference to your mind and mental health in general.

#5 – Paint #paintyourmind

Thankfully, all types of coloring books have been created for the people who tend to get extremely stressful. Grab your pens and your coloring book and start coloring the images on the paper. You can even choose a theme, from jungle to fictional characters.

#6 – Visit a loved one #affectionhelps

Make sure to spend your free time with people you love, like your grandma, your lover or your best friend. Spending time with people that make you feel good will immediately change the way you look at things. The people we love and who love us also tend to make us relax and face the world with a certain positive attitude. Find the person who does that for you and never let go.

There are a numerous ways to deal with anxiety and stress that comes from work. It’s a good thing that we’ve faced and have accepted the fact that it can really be a serious illness, because that means that we are looking for ways to deal with it. The ways above are my own way of dealing with a stressful day at work. I am not sure if they will work for you, but you should really give it a try. The point here is to explore ways that you can use to de-stress after work, to let your mind wander off and even for a few moments to forget what is troubling you. Surely you will have to find a solution and face whatever is troubling you eventually, but it’s nice to be able to breath out for a while.

Develop hobbies and habits that make your be more productive even outside work about issues that have nothing to do with work. Love and live your life, because what we tend to forget is that we also have a life outside work!
