One of the most well known destinations for winter breaks in Greece is Arachova.
Arachova is a relatively small town in Greece, located in western part of Boeotia. During winter time the temperature can fall to even -4 bellow 0 (and more). The cold there is a real deal to your bones, which is the reason why if you ever wish to visit the town make sure you have warm clothes and non slippery shoes.

I recently went on a 3 day trip to Arachova’s Snow Center in Mount Parnassos with friends. Don’t get me wrong, I am not one to easily try out ski and snowboarding – or generally any activity that requires coordination and balance. I like the snow, but mostly when I can just play out like a kid a bit and then lock myself in a room with a fireplace. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the view, while others enjoy the feel.

The Snow Center (Parnassos Ski Center – click to see) is a very beautiful and practical place to go when you are a ski/snowboard enthusiast. There are always moving small cable cars to take you to the top of the mountain, well almost the top, they take you to a higher level where the beginning of the platforms are along with the three-stories coffee place that I spent my time at.

If you are a complete amateur there are trainers there that you can ‘hire’ for an hour to show you around the sport you want to learn, whether that is skiing or snowboarding. By the way you can find your equipment by either renting it at the village before arriving to the mountain or by renting it from the ski center.

When you choose your accommodation during high winter season then you should book your room almost two weeks prior. Because of its proximity to the mountain there are always people staying in the village, which is very small but lovely.

We stayed at a small village near Arachova called Chrisso. It’s very small, with not much to do, but the room was lovely and warm and had everything we needed. We stayed at Elias Apartments and had the best experience. You can book your stay through AirBnb.
Arachova is filled with little shops that sell all kinds of stuff, from winter clothes to ski outfits. Generally it’s the type of village that has really invested in exactly what brings them profit, which are the ski athletes. You can find any type of winter outfit you wish in that small one way road that crosses the village.

One thing that I really enjoy when visiting another place is that close to one village there are others nearby that hide exceptional beauty that is unknown to tourists, like myself. Chrisso and Delphi is one of those places, along with Itea that is a town close to the sea. Notice the paradox between sea and mountains? I love that!
Despite the love I have for Green during summertime, Greece is beautiful even during winter. Small, lovely, warm villages with people that are ready to make you feel welcomed and wanted. An opportunity to try out different and new recipes, local dishes, see the view of places that normally you see on google. There is nothing like being a witness of such beauty.
Where are you feeling like going for winter break?
