When history mixes itself with action movies the result can either be an exceptional blockbuster movie, or a typical why-did-I-watch-this-film. Uncharted was a little bit of both.

I am a huge fan of movies that have something to teach you. When you mix a historical event, especially one as important as the round of the earth by Ferdinand Magellan, and a pair of actors known for their finest selections of movies then I can’t help but feel both anxious and excited. Uncharted, for me, was not the video game that most people used to play on Playstation since I am not a player. For me the introduction started when I saw the trailer of a new movie starring Tom Holland, my second favorite Spider Man (you can’t beat Tobey Maguire in my head- he is the original). Therefore, I was excited to see one very interesting actor playing in a new action movie, hoping that it would keep me on the edge of my seat with the stunts and the adventure that were about to go to.
Uncharted is worth your time if you want to watch how a videogame can be turned into a movie. It’s interesting and pleasant to watch. Doesn’t keep you on the edge of your seat, but it does make you jump at a few points and there is an on-going funny dialogue and smart comments in the scenario that lifts up the movie on its own.

Mark Wahlberg is known to be a very skillful actor and it does help the fact that you can see a some sort of father-son bond between the two main characters that party have something to do with the age gap between the actors, but at the same time in the movie Wahlberg’s character reminded me a more friendly father figure that’s full with advice and interest about Holland’s character well-being. Half the movie is smart comments and jokes about Wahlberg’s age, but it’s so funny and smart the way that’s incorporated into the scenario.
Holland is as lively as always, although I must say that quite a few time I expected to see him in his red Spider-man suit. The character was almost like watching another version of spider-man without the Marvel universe involved. I liked that spark he has though and the way that he can so easily bring light and perkiness into the movie.
The scenes with the stunts were quite spectacular. Obviously, there were times when I’d say this is a bit too much and too good to be true, but I guess this is also the key point of the movie. If – from what I saw- the game is full with these stunts and amazing acrobatics, it’s only fair that the movie follows suit with the same type of performances. It brings justice to its action genre.
But, it’s not all about the two main characters, for the movie also includes two very powerful and confident young women, Sophia Ali and Tati Gabrielle. Personally I have seen the work of Tati Gabrielle and I was very excited to see her confidence on the big screen and it really brought the character a lot of passion and edge. Sophia Ali almost made us mistake her for the girl next door, but she also had every little bit of feistiness.

There were very accurate historical parts in the movie and somewhat confusing such as Magellan’s death, but it’s not something that’s going to bother you when watching this movie. I think you’ll be so invested into cracking the code and finding out the clues along with the characters that you will pay little attention to historical facts.
It’s a movie that will make you question how many things you know of this world and whether or not every single piece of treasure has been found throughout the countless expeditions through the years and centuries.
Not the type of movie that’s going to make you get hooked on it, but very pleasant to watch!
