You have to be very brave in order to change the main actor playing one of the most well known and beloved super heroes of all time.

Along with Superman, Batman is the super hero we all grew up with! We learned to love his dark, mysterious vibe and the fact that he was so tormented by his own demons from his childhood that truly wanted to make a difference in his city, to make things better and safer for everyone. Ironically, nowadays, we want to make a difference in this world, maybe we do need a Batman these days.
Let’s jump into the movie, though. The duration of it was 3 hours long, which to some might not sound like a lot for such an important movie and character, but to me a 3-hour-movie was a bit much. Sure, you’re comfortable sitting in those large armchairs with your popcorn and drink in hand, but still how much can you prolong a movie? To be honest, for me the scenes were going a bit too slow in general. The meaning of each scene could be easily given in a matter of minutes, but the director simply wanted to make you take really good looks at the details of each little thing that was happening. I like it as an idea, but as a viewer I felt like it could be a bit shorter on duration.

I really enjoyed the action that was going on though. Surely, when you hear a movie about Batman you prepare yourself for a lot of action and stunts, but this movie was on another level. Very powerful in action, a lot of fires and explosions, a very long car chase and actors that pretty much were everywhere and on everything. For action lovers, such as myself, those bits were creating a sense of rush to my body. I was anxiously waiting for the next big thing, the next grand explosion or the next bit that was going to put me at the edge of my seat.
Sound effects were as powerful as the action bits.

The real deal of this movie, though, was the selection of actors portraying the characters. Personally, I thought that making Robert Pattinson the next Batman was a huge and daring move from the production perspective and honestly I don’t know what urged them to do so. Ever since Harry Potter and later Twilight, I am also a Pattinson fan, and to be honest with you he does have that quiet, mysterious, distant-kind-of-vibe that a Batman actor should have since the character is dark himself. Much like Batman he seems like a closed off person. His very prominent jawline helped when wearing the mask to truly make us believe that he is the Batman we know, but when it came to expressing emotion in challenging scenes I think he could have done better. Batman may be an expressionless character, but in one particular scene in the movie I didn’t get the sad and tortured vibe at all, which is sad because I was expecting to see some deep sadness in his eyes. There was no such thing.

Zoe Kravitz on the other hand, just served us another version of Catwoman. I was expecting to see another version of Halle Berry, but let’s face it that woman was the beginning and end of what Catwoman is. However, I did enjoy Zoe Kravitz on that role, she was very dark as well, very fitting to the film’s vibe.
The thing that made all this worth it? The deep meaning of the film and the how relatable it felt in todays’ times. We live in a very messed up world and that is a known fact. Like Gotham, this world is filled with people ready to take advantage of whatever means they can, authoroties are corrupted and many people live in fear and poverty. The idea that a man feels like he has to dedicate his life to make his town a little better, I believe, made us all wish that there was such a person in reality.
In conclusion, if you are a hardcore Batman fan then this movie might not be what you expect or wish. Very basic script and slow scenes might tire you out, so prepare yourself with yummy snacks if you truly want to watch it.
