It was during the 1500s and 1600s that women used to wear bustiers (or corsets as they were widely known) underneath their dresses to create the illusion of a smaller waist. Back then a full bust and very small waist were considered the highest form of beauty.
We all know that the fashion industry moves in circles and likes to bring back garments of the past and use them in a different way than what they used to. It’s its very own form of recycling and it seems to be working very well all those years.
One trend that has been back for a while and is very much loved by the public and the celerbities whose style we love and aspire to have are the corset tops. Launched from the most prestigious catwalks of the world in fashion weeks like Balmain (Fall 2022 / Ready-to-wear), Rokh (Fall 2022 / Ready-to-wear), Christian Lacroix ( Couture Fall 2003).
Also worn in various occasions by our favourite celebrities out there like Bella Hadid, Dakota Johnson, Kourtney Kardashian. Bustiers are a type of top that can be altered to look either unbelievably chic or fashionably casual – as always it all comes down to how you style a garment.
One thing that I really love about corset tops or bustiers – call them whatever you want – is how easily they can turn any outfit into a rock on outfit of the night for drinks at the bar or with the right satin pants for a very prestigious dinner at a fine restaurant.

When buying a corset top the options are endless, since there are so many fabrics to choose from like denim or satin or polyester, with lace or not, with leather parts or not. Also, finding the right type off corset for you can be a bit tricky – you have to choose between cups or straight hemline, heartshaped bust or with low cleveage. Whatever you decide make sure you feel comfortable in it!
