What type of music do you listen to when you are in the comfort of your home alone?
Personally, I like strong beats and intense melodies with matching intense lyrics that make my heart beat faster, because they tend to help me stay up, work more effectively and lift my spirits when feeling down. Rock music has been in my life for so many years, basically ever since my eldest sister started listening to that genre starting with legendary bands, such as Scorpions and other rock bands that defined the rock music shaping it into a genre of true legends.
Me? I ‘graduated’ from rock music and moved around the rock bands and melodies, even experimented with sound a bit as I was growing older, but I always go back to classic rock.

Everything started when I was introduced to the english rock band, Muse, back in middle school from a couple of friends and have been a true fan of them ever since. Each album was better than the previous one and the lyrics always seemed to have something relevant with the world, talking about how the world is repressed and how people are thirsty for freedom. I have some favorite songs such as Knights of Cedonia, Neutron Star Collision, Time is Running Out and so on.
In all honesty, I have never thought that I would get to see and listen to them live in Greece. Not many foreign celebrities visit my country, but this time things were different, things were better. Athen’s Ejekt Festival is a festival where music and drinks and fun and ease become one for a few days with apprearances of some of the best worldwide Dj’s and bands in the world. I would say under a roof, but it takes place in wide public squares and football fields – this time it took place at OAKA in Athens and it was a gathering of all I mentioned before.

Ever since the first covid case people have been reluctant to attend such events with such big crowds, but I believe that after 2 and a half years we’re all ready to re-find the routines we left behind. Before covid, masks and vaccines.
Muse have been to Greece before, but many years ago when I was just a kid and my parents wouldn’t take me to such concerts. Thinking about it now it makes sense, because I seriously don’t think my parents are made up for this kind of music.
I had a blast! The entire night, from early evening to be exact, was filled with rock music sounds. Bands played before Muse that I didn’t exactly know, like Yungblud who really made people jumb around with them to the beat. The head singer is a fantastic lunatic that you simply must know, he is a new type of rock lovin’.

Muse’s stage took a while to set up. Apparently, they had a big metallic mask that went onto 360o circle all the while the songs kept playing and at some point a giant finger was also put up a few feet away from the stage. The fireworks, the drones, the screens that showed the intro of their brand new album – it was all worth the standing, the heat and the mask I was wearing the entire time.

Matt Bellamy sung his heart out to the greek public with his voice travelling through the crowed and pumping everyone out with energy. He sung most of my favorite songs – I was a little sad he didn’t play the piano and sing Neutron Star Collision, but c’est la vie- did some crazy dancing and appearances, but overall he was a true joy.

Obviously, the rest of the band memberes – Chris Wolstenholme and Dom Howard – were phenomenal with Chris taking over the vocals for Matt and giving to the songs the appropriate amount of edge a rock song should have. Dom Howard was bringing the necessary beat to the tunes, he had some amazing mini solos and the vibe and energy he emitted was phenomenal.
Have you really been to a concert if you haven’t rocked out in one? I may not have enough experience, but let me tell you I would do it all over again to get the thrill of listening live the songs I grew up with!
Are you all ready to go back enjoying concerts? I certainly am!
