New York Fashion Week, Spring/Summer ’23 – Seeing & Loving

I was merely a young girl reading fashion magazines my sister was buying at the time, when I first read about New York Fashion Week.

Up until New York Fashion Week (NWFW) started happening I thought only Paris Couture was worth keeping track of because of all the commotion and the glamour that was going on, but when I was introduced to all the magic happening in New York concerning the fashion industry I was mesmerized. We all know how modern and industrial New York City is, even me and I’m a Greek city girl, so it’s a bit difficult to understand how fashion can bring out another side of that city. The elegance and poise that important brands, like Tom Ford, bring to the catwalks of New York city is truly something any fashion-conscious person should be aware of.

This year’s fashion week started on September 9th in all its industrial glory. New York has become the center of fast fashion collections and many important shows take place there where bricks, busy streets and fashion meet up in an amazing combination.

There was a parade of colors, fabrics and layers on those catwalks. Most collections reminded me of a very big party going on in New York City, the place where admittedly it never sleeps.

Fashion week was filled with incredible artists, designers who put all their inspiration in their creations and were the architects of various amazing collections. Below I have a few well-known brands with creations that caught my eyes for their modern style, breezy look and fashionable taste.

Fendi

Fendi, this grand fashion house, celebrated their 25th anniversary of their iconic Baguette bag. The baguette bag with its elongated shape and practical yet stylish use, was this year’s ready-to-wear collection proud jewel. Imported in ready-to-wear looks the baguette bag was the main item that draw everybody’s attention due to its unique colors and embellishments. Here are some of my personal favorite looks:

Altuzarra

Starrett-Lehigh Building in New York City was so lucky to host this unique collection of Altuzarra. Sportswear and the general athleisure type is the modern days relevant style. Everybody wants to be comfy yet trendy and Altuzarra knows exactly what its customers crave and gave it to them freely. Long blazers, sport shoes and statement dresses married off in combinations that dared us to think modern. Casual chic is being re-invented in the terms of Altuzarra.

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection had the classic statement logo of the brand imported in its clothes in all layers. Tommy Hilfiger is known for the way its logo is printed on its clothes and accessories and once again the famous TH initials were ‘carved’ on jackets, pants, shirts and accessories. Surely, we know the way the brand ‘works’ on its designs, yet with each collection there is a new way the initials find their home on the clothes. Once again the sportswear hint was evident, but it’s no secret that Tommy Hilfiger has a marvelous way of owning sportswear.

Brandon Maxwell

I have a special spot in my heart for Brandon Maxwell. I love the brand’s identity and the way it manages to create a fancy outfit with garments so simple, but so sparkly. That’s the word that describes this collection: sparkly. Pastel colors, simple designs with sparkly embellished details. You can now dress like you’re going to a party even if you’re simply going to work. You can thank Brandon Maxwell for that.

Puma

The future is here and Puma was the one bringing it. Puma, the well-known sporty brand, made a very powerful comeback on the streets of New York and left people thirsty for more. They surely left me thirsty! When we know that athleisure is the way to go this year on the streets, ready-to-wear collections are the proof of that, who’s better than Puma to teach them how catwalk and sports can be combined? Could you have imagined how great an asymmetrical skirt would look with a sparkly bodycon and sneakers? I would never dare to do that, but Puma showed us that there is no limit in imagination and style. I’m in love!

Michael Kors

Michael Kors took us on imaginary resort vacations with its latest ready-to-wear Spring Summer collection. With a basic color palette and daring cut outs, this season’s ready to wear is destined for the powerful woman who wants to enter the room and turn heads. Are you one of them? I loved how feminine the designs were and how confident the models looked while walking the runway dressed in Kors. Bella Hadid stole my heart with the sexiest yet chic outfit I saw that week.

Tom Ford

Tom Ford went full disco mode for his Spring Summer 2023 collection. With Madonna on the front row we should have known that his collection would be something that the diva herself would be able to wear on a night or day out. Fishnets, crystals, glamour and disco vibes, Tom Ford decided to contribute with his disco side to this fashionable party. Lace was not absent from the catwalk, but was turned into the trendiest outfit you could wear – matched with a leather outfit you can never go wrong.

With Fashion Week coming to an end, we admittedly saw very interesting collections and got a hint of how this season’s clothes would look on the racks of each fast-selling store. We must not shy away from sequins, since we saw that this season would be the all about the sparkle and all about the glamour. Athleisure was in fashion from the previous season, so this is not exactly new to us. However, it’s always interesting seeing how high brand designers mix up their styles and what they can do with a pair of sneakers or a track jacket.

Are you ready for this season? I know I am!
