Brunching @ Acera, The Brunch Project

Brunch has become an important part of everybody’s day.

Back in the day all we had was breakfast, lunch and dinner to go through, but now we have another in-between snack time to keep you on your feet up until lunch time rolls around. I’m not judging the existence of brunch, trust me, I’m actually quite glad it exists because I love to snack throughout the day and especially a few hours after breakfast I simply need something to keep me going. For some reason lunch just looks like a very distant time.

Brunching is a happy time for many people, especially when you are off work, like on the weekends. Just around 10am to 12 am, is the perfect time to eat something to get you going until 2pm when lunch is commonly served here in Greece. A few weekends ago, I had the opportunity to try out one very intriguing brunch point in Athens, called Acera The Brunch Project.

Located in Kallithea, Acera is without a doubt a very Instagram-able spot for your brunch. With mirror wall, green plants around the wall and ceiling, and the most vibrant compilation of green and pink shades, it’s a place that most people want to be photographed in. Including myself.

It’s not only the fact that it’s a very well-designed place for coffee, chat and even working a bit, it’s actually a very well invested place in brunch. Obviously, because of its name you can understand how this place was specifically made to offer the best kind of brunch selection and to be honest with you its menu was kind of impressive.

The good thing about Acera is that it offers a very large variety of brunch options for all tastes. Whether you are a sweet tooth or like me prefer something sourer, then they can cater to your liking. You can choose among waffles, eggs, yoghurt bowls and so many other options that simply slip my mind because of how many they were. Coffee is also good or I should say decent. I am not a particularly strict person with my coffee, but I did find a bit too water-y. Nonetheless, it had a good amount of much needed caffeine.

Personally, I opted for a safer choice when it came to my options for lunch. I love a good sour breakfast with bacon and bread, the egg is an extra bonus that I also enjoy in general some morning. Two pieces of toast bread, poached eggs, bechamel sauce, turkey slice and some cheese in-between. I’m telling you it was the best choice, everything tasted fresh while the presentation was also quite impressive.

My partner opted for a sour brunch as well, despite the fact he is the sweet tooth in the relationship. Have you ever had waffles with chicken for brunch? No? Well, maybe you should visit Acera and have a taste of it, they have this particular dish with little waffle bites made to look like a little tower, only they’ve also added a large piece of chicken – or maybe a couple of it – and it has spreads of mustard and another white sauce on it. Each bite is equally tasty – obviously, I stole a bit because I am a sucker for those kinds of dishes.

In general, the presentation of the plates was artistically prepared. It appeared the chefs knew that their plates would parade on Instagram and after a look at it, most of them were indeed posted. If you’re a large group they also have this very long wooden tray with all kinds of brunch options, like toast and eggs and bacon and cake in portions. The group of friends next to us got it and let me tell you it was a very good idea for 4 people. You can google it, if you don’t believe me.

At the same time, you can grab something sweet to accompany your coffee in the afternoon like perhaps a plate of sweet crepes. Or if you feel like finishing up your day or want to grab a quick lunch, Acera also offers some large burgers with potatoes on the side. Whatever you need to get you going through the day!

You know, Athens has so many great places for good brunch and Acera is one of them, you can find it on Mantzagriotaki 105, Kallithea.
